About the Customer

TOSYALI Holding, operating on 3 continents with nearly 50 facilities and approximately 15,000 employees, has an annual steel production capacity of 15 million tons. It is Turkey’s largest and Europe’s third-largest green steel producer. According to the World Steel Association, it was ranked the 46th largest steel producer in the world in 2024.

Among its energy investments, Tosyalı has commissioned a solar power plant with an installed capacity of 235 MWp, making it one of the largest rooftop solar projects in the world, producing nearly 200 million kWh of electricity annually. With the goal of increasing its total installed capacity to 1.5 GW and reducing its electricity consumption from external sources by more than 85%, it plans to achieve energy independence in steel production.

Focused on sustainability, Tosyalı’s TOSYALI V-Green brand offers low-carbon certified products, and TOSYALI V-Solar supports green panel production. With these efforts, Tosyalı aims to lead green transformation in the steel industry both in Turkey and globally.

Problem/Opportunity

  • Tosyalı Holding’s solar power investment consisting of 280,000 panels became polluted over time due to environmental conditions.
  • Due to its location in an industrial area, dust, pollen, bird droppings, and industrial pollution accumulated on the surface of the panels, reducing light transmittance.
  • The efficiency of the panels decreased, causing up to 30% energy loss in the return on investment.
  • At this scale, the lack of regular and sustainable cleaning led to the loss of millions of kWh of energy.
  • Considering the scale of the investment, panel cleaning became a critical need both economically and in terms of sustainability goals.

Solution

  • Our company’s RTM PRO robots were deployed for the regular and safe cleaning of 280,000 panels.
  • The robots provided maximum efficiency with minimal resource use, thanks to a system that saves water and energy.
  • A special brush and movement mechanism that doesn’t damage the surface extended the lifespan of the panels.
  • With automated operation, the need for human labor was minimized, eliminating occupational safety risks.
  • With planned maintenance and operations, pollution was brought under control and cleaning continuity was ensured.

Outcome

  • Contamination on the surface of 260,000 panels was completely removed, and the panels resumed operating at maximum efficiency.
  • Up to 30% energy loss was eliminated, resulting in millions of kWh of additional energy production.
  • Tosyalı Holding achieved significant energy cost savings through regular cleaning.
  • Panel lifespan was extended, reducing maintenance and replacement costs.
  • Carbon footprint was further reduced, directly supporting Tosyalı’s green steel production vision.
  • Thanks to operational speed, cleaning was completed quickly with no disruption to production.
