Problem / Opportunity
Due to the iron and steel production and intensive industrial activities carried out by Ağır Global in the Kocaeli Organized Industrial Zone, industrial dust, metal particles, smoke residues, and natural pollutants (such as pollen, bird droppings, etc.) have accumulated on the surfaces of the panels, causing significant performance losses. This contamination has prevented the solar power system from achieving its expected efficiency and has kept energy costs from decreasing to the projected levels.
In line with its sustainability goals to use energy more efficiently and reduce carbon emissions, the company faced difficulties in maximizing performance from its power plant. In addition to the need to produce energy more economically and sustainably, the inadequacy of traditional cleaning methods, unsustainable panel cleaning processes relying on external services, and personnel-related occupational safety risks led Ağır Global to decide to adopt robotic cleaning solutions.
Solution:
Ağır Global invested in domestically produced Robsys robotic cleaning robots to prevent a 5% production loss in its 5 MW rooftop solar power plant and to ensure sustainable energy generation.
Equipped with special brushes that do not damage panel surfaces and capable of operating safely even on sloped roofs, these robots completely eliminated the need for manual cleaning, providing safe and high-standard cleaning capabilities.
With this investment, Ağır Global has ensured continuity in energy production while contributing to its environmental goals by reducing carbon emissions.
Output:
The system, which compensated for the 5% production loss caused by contamination in just the first year, paid for itself in approximately 18 months. While the factory reduced its energy bill by 60%, it also minimized maintenance and occupational safety costs. Additionally, by selling excess energy produced on sunny days, the company began generating additional revenue.
